The Grilled Cheese Grill

A few weeks back, R and I spent a couple of days in Portland, Oregon and loved it! It was gorgeous, clean and oh so very green! Of course, a large part of the visit was the food. :) One of the many places we ate at was The Grilled Cheese Grill. I loved this place… imagine eating in an old school bus! I loved the cheekiness of eating a grilled cheese in a school bus and playing trivia at the same time.

The menu is simple and everything is made with good quality ingredients, which I really appreciate. They have a section called the classics with sandwiches named the kindergartener, the pre-schooler and the first garder. How fun is that? You can also customize your sandwich with a variety of toppings to rock your boat.

The husband and I split three sandwiches (which was more than plenty, thank you very much!) and everything we had were true odes to the ooey gooey crispy goodness that is a grilled cheese!

I had The Popper which has roasted jalapeƱos, white cheddar and tortilla chips… yes you read it right… tortilla chips! My husband had one of the daily specials. Apart from this I managed to get in a single bite (seriously, it was just a bite!) of the classic grilled cheese and it was sheer heaven! We split a tomato soup that was homey and classic in flavor.

If you do have space, the Grilled Cheese Grill also offers sweet versions of their sandwiches like The Elvis! R and I had no space left to even contemplate getting one, so if you’ve ever tasted one of the sweets, do drop me a line about your experience!

Here are some pictures:

There’s the famous school bus/ dining area!

The entire ‘operations’ is located in a very futuristic looking food truck

The Popper Sandwich

Yum yum yum…

The Classic Style served with love and a pickle!

  2. This is so very cool. I love finding unique places like that so much more than eating in food chain restaurants. If I ever get back to Portland, I'm heading over there....of course it's on the other side of the country, but ah well.

  16. Lavanya, I am very sure all kind of vadiyalu or vadis can be made into curry, you will just need to cook it longer as they are really very hard due to sun drying. When I post my recipe, try to follow and see if you can use that way :)
